ABOUT US

OUR HISTORY

Women in and around Sudhagad Taluka live in dire poverty amidst unhygienic conditions, domestic violence and no hope for the future. Employment options are limited to brewing local liquor, hard labor at construction sites, work in factories that pose long-term health risks and adolescent girls being sent by families to urban areas as domestic help, often facing exploitation. Other challenges include restrictions on working in factories where they would need to interact with men and a lack of safe public transport, making their commutes both unsafe and exhausting.

The adversities that these women face could give any of us sleepless nights. Yet their smiles now reflect the confidence that Sa-Ni-Sa has helped them build, to deal with challenges that life throws at them, and emerge successful.

Our NGO Shramik Naari Sangh, also known as Sa-Ni-Sa, is a Charitable Society registered under The Societies Registration Act and The Bombay Public Trusts Act. It is exempt under section 80G of the Income Tax Act.

Established in 2004 with the belief that an empowered woman can bring about a cultural and progressive change to her family & future generation, it is this very quality that is reflected in the name “Shramik Naari”.

Sa-Ni-Sa, run end-to-end ‘By women for women’, is a beacon of hope to countless dreams. With an innovative approach to industrialising inherent skills of the Indian woman – rolling round rotis (Indian bread), and developing a holistic model to make Khakhras, we started to provide stable employment and income to less-privileged women with the brand name Chaakri in 2006.

Today, there are multiple brands – Chaakri, Divinite, Puro, All Things Yumm and Agarbatti Sabki. We empower over hundred women and their families by helping them realise their potential through employment, education and spiritual growth.

Training and skill development is provided to women to make various products like khakhras, chocolates, bath & body products, confectionery, incense, etc. They are also taught all aspects of manufacturing like personal hygiene, quality control, packing, compiling orders received, dispatch as per orders, inventory management and billing.

Today, these women earn a living and support their families. Our commitment to their welfare extends to overall development through various initiatives like :

  1. Health & Hygiene : Holistic measures are taken to ensure good health on a sustainable basis like medical check-ups, gynaecology and breast cancer camps, monthly sanitary napkins distribution, first aid training, awareness on harmful effects of chewing tobacco, etc.
  2. Nutrition & Wellness : We provide protein-rich brunch and supplements daily, conduct yoga sessions customized to their lifestyle, and celebrate their birthdays to reiterate that they too are special.
  3. Educational Support : We assist with their children’s education, ensuring they have a bright future and a progressive life. Women are encouraged to let their daughters pursue education without any discrimination.
  4. Life-Skills Training : Quarterly workshops cover topics like communication, bank account management, positive thinking, self-expression, team building, leadership, family planning etc.
  5. Social Awareness : We address various social stigmas, including creating awareness against domestic. Many women working with us have participated in Gynaecologists led workshops that educate them about the dangers of child marriage and early pregnancies, empowering them with the knowledge and courage to prevent their daughters from marrying young.

Today our beneficiary women are self-reliant and work with dignity in a safe, secure & positive work environment. The products they create are sold across numerous cities in India and also exported to other countries through our volunteers, thus uplifting them from an extremely unfavourable situation and putting them on the world map; on a journey of independence, welfare and success.
